The actual term used for nerve pinching is Spinal Stenosis. I had the same problem in my L4-L5 since Dec 2005 and the pain became unbearable by Sept 2005.
I showed to many specialists in India and the final outcome was that I needed a full operation. Laser operation or laproscopic operation was not possible in my case because of the position of nerves.
So I underwent an operation on 12th october 2006 and now I am fully ok with no pain. I am highly diabetic and so it took more tiime for me to recover. A device called DIAM ( 'spacer' is the colocal term) was also fixed to keep the proper space in the spinal area which should be 2 mm to 5 mm.
I have lot of literature with me on Spinal Stenosis and DIAM which I can send if you so desire. Please feel free to contact me.
India, is the best country today for a cheap and full proof operation. It will cost you about US $ 6000 for the operation including the cost of one DIAM. Cost of travel to India would be extra. Apollo Hospital in New Delhi is recognised in USA also.
References :
Going through the treatment now. The nerve could be pinched because of deterioration of the disc. If you consider a chiropractor, he /she might be able to realign the spine in order to relieve the pinching of the nerve. It beats the option of surgery. Use ice packs and occasionally heat. Heat will relax the muscles and allow more freedom of movement. Ice will aid in relieving any inflammation. Good Luck
