Lower back pain exercises can be summed up in one word, pilates. This form of exercise focuses core body strength and conditioning. And it is either the source or a good spin off for many low back pain exercises to correct muscle imbalances.

The goal of Pilates is to strengthen the mind body and spirit. Where I am not much of a spiritual person I do know that core exercise does help strenghten the body. Since it is your mind that controls your body, you will give positive feedback to your mind through core exercises. Therefore, challenge the muscles in a way that spares the spine. In other words strengthen the body through simple Pilates movements that will improve muscular endurance.

I would not recommend a full blown Pilates program right away. I would focus on quality core workouts. Where a specific set of movements are focused to treat only your core body. Then, once proper movements are learned you can build on strength.

Why is it that you need a strong core? Because it is the foundation of the entire body. All of the body’s parts are connected to it – including the ones that people tend to complain about the most such as the neck, head and lower back. There is nothing better than being able to move freely without pain.

Another misconception about Pilates is that you need to hire a professional to teach you how to do the exercises. That is not true and you can do these exercises at home. All you need is a DVD and a Pilates mat to do the exercises. One may assume that doing Pilates will take up a lot of their time. This is yet another misconception. A typical session only lasts for 10 minutes and you get the same benefits as you would from physical therapy.
